The road to flawless skin
Three homemade treatments for perfect skin
You don't need to raid your local chemists or homeopath's surgery to find the right ingredients for homemade skin care treatments. Nor do you need a maths degree to work out the different dosages. These treatments are easy to whizz up and use ingredients you'll find in your fridge and kitchen cupboards!
1 A homemade oil cleanser Ingredient : - Oil and that's all! Olive or coconut oil are good bets. Instructions: Pour a bit of oil on to your palms and warm it up. Gently massage it on to your face and eyes (keep them closed!) to get rid of make up and impurities. Remove the oil using a cotton pad - better than a tissue, which could irritate your skin. You can always add the juice of 1/2 lemon for an anti-bacterial and antioxidant action. Result: A squeaky clean, supple, nourished complexion without a trace of make up in sight!
2 Homemade sugar scrub Ingredients : - a tablespoon of white caster sugar - a tablespoon of vegetable oil (olive, walnut, argan) - 2 drops of lemon or grapefruit essential oil Instructions: Mix up the ingredients in a bowl with a spoon until you get a moist, sandy paste. Add a bit of hot water if the paste needs thinning. Massage the paste on to clean, dry skin using light circular movements, working from the centre of your face out. Rinse off with lukewarm water. Result: smooth, dewy skin!
3 Homemade honey face mask Ingredients : - 1 egg white - 1 tablespoon of runny honey - 1/2 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice - 1 tablespoon of yoghurt or fresh single cream Instructions: Beat the egg white until you get a fluffy consistency, then add the honey and lemon juice. Add the yoghurt and blend until you get a smooth mixture. Slather it all over your (clean!) face and neck, but avoid your eye area. Pop a towel around your shoulders as it can be a bit runny and leave for 15 minutes before rinsing off. Result: the moisturising, smoothing yoghurt will refresh your tired features, whilst its calcium content will boost skin cell renewal. As for the honey, it's packed with mineral salts, vitamins and amino acids, all which soothe and soften skin.
